They crossed mountains, rivers, and frontiers. They fought in wars, cleared wilderness farms, raised families, and helped build the communities that became home. Their story is more than a genealogy, it is an American journey. Coming in 2027, this new history of the Copeland family follows that journey across three centuries and several states, bringing together records, stories, and discoveries never before assembled in a single volume.
For more than forty years, I have researched the origins and migrations of the Copeland family, following our story from colonial Virginia and North Carolina through Tennessee and into the Ozarks of Missouri. This upcoming book combines traditional genealogy with historical narrative, placing our ancestors within the events and places that shaped their lives. Rather than presenting names and dates alone, the book follows the families, communities, migrations, military service, and frontier experiences that carried generations of Copelands across America.
Drawing upon original records, land grants, military documents, pension files, family Bibles, DNA evidence, and years of research, the work traces the family's journey through more than three centuries of American history.

He first settled near the Rappahannock River in Old Rappahannock County, Virginia where he had

purchased land in 1665. He married Judith West about 1660. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 3 daughters: William (1661-1698), Richard (1664-Unknown), Nicholas (Jr.) (1675-1745), Ann (unknown -1722), Elizabeth (1663-1727), and Jane (1665-1727). Nicholas died in 1720 in Essex County, Virginia. This blog will follow the descendants of Nicholas and his wife Judith.
